About Uniden 5.8GHz phones Uniden 5.8GHz phones operate on the higher end of the frequency spectrum, providing greater range and less interference than standard 2.4GHz phones. Uniden 5.8GHz digital FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) technology secures privacy while providing longer range and crystal clear sound. 5.8GHz frequencies often escape most wireless interference, including most Wi-Fi networks, resulting in a cleaner and clearer signal, and unlike many other 5.8GHz phones, Uniden TRU series phones both transmit and receive in 5.8GHz. The TRU9585-2 is backed by a one-year limited warranty. |

Rating: - * AVERAGE ... I got the product for a good price, with a reasonable shipping time. But this product is not working properly. I mean there is a problem with the base adapter. its is not charging that good. I am waiting for its performance, if the same continues i want an exchange. But overall it is good. Rating: - * Going downhill with the TRU9585 ... The TRU9585 appears to be a couple steps backward for Uniden. 1) The answering machine audio quality is horrible. The caller sounds like their head's in a bucket. My last Uniden, the CLX485, had the best audio I've ever heard for an answering machine. I'm starting to really regret getting rid of it. 2) The receiver volume on the handset is also poor. When talking to a caller the other night, I had to max it out to get a decent level. (I've listened to a lot of loud music, but I'm not THAT hard of hearing yet.) 3) Selection of ring tones is poor. Uniden selected about 7 or 8 from the same set of irritating noises used in the CLX485 and DCT646 line. (at least the CLX485 let you record your own) Why is it so difficult for phone makers to come up with ringers that don't grate on the nerves? Even a recorded version of the old-style bell ringer would be nice. (that was available on a cheap AT&T 2.4 a few years ago, but not since) On the positive side, the outgoing voice quality appears to be fairly good, though it has the same kind of "huffiness" that 5.8Ghz seems cursed with, as I noticed this both in other reviews of 5.8 phones and in an AT&T 5.8 that I recently tried. Also, the handset seems to be pretty nice ergonomically. Lastly, the receiving audo quality on the base speakerphone sounds pretty decent, though I haven't tried to talk to anyone on it. I really should've kept the CLX485. Rating: - * Very good design ... Uniden 5.8GHz model TRU 9585-2 has smooth solid finish and good functionality. You need to push SEND button after dialing the number and hand-held units are ergonomically designed to be dialed with one hand, which gives them actually look and feel of some Nokia cell phones - very cool. Not too bulky and no squeaky buttons. Speaker phone on base unit and hand units and the answering system are easy to use. Base looks great on the desk and wall mount attachment is easy to install. Also, this model is sending and receiving with 5.8 GHz, not like some manufacturers that cheat and switch. Buttons on hand units are well-lit when dialing. I used two very good high-end Panasonic 2.4 GHz models for years but recently started having problems because of wireless routers and laptops; therefore I had to change to 5.8GHz, and after checking specifications for dozens of cordless phones, Uniden 9585-2 appears to be one of the best 5.8GHZ available. There is an unofficial test for the phones: when you talk to another person on the phone you should be able to "see" when that person is smiling. With this phone you can, believe it or not. I tried couple of other latest cordless phones in its price range or higher which had really good reviews, and returned them because voice was either unpleasant metallic or too distorted and processed. This Uniden sounds natural like regular traditional wired phone. I would recommend this phone to anyone who likes good quality and professionally looking electronics, either for home use or for business. |
