Rating: - * Uniden GMR1235-2 2-Way 12 Mile 2 Pack GMRS/FRS Radios ... to install batteries you need to have strength or an adult withstrong figures to pull the back off. Once the batteries in, the power does not last more than 10 minutes using AA duracel. I tried alternative batteries but the power just burns through in 10 minutes. However this is fun for the kids as an interactive game. I would recommend children two way radios for this as the power from Matel products seem to last longer Rating: - * Very Good ... These work great - we use them to communicate with the guys in our warehouse. We do get some interruption on occassion, but we are quick to change channels. Rating: - * One works One doesn't ... Bought the a pair of the radios in early Oct. For the first 10-20 uses they worked fine. Then one started having battery life of 1-2 hrs. A day later it doesn't work at all. Bad quality control. Rating: - * Good value ... These were a good buy. Use them when we go to the beach, or the mall, or wherever a group may want to separate and still stay in touch. Realistic range more like a mile when there are buildings, trees, terrain changes. Wished they could get louder when we had them at the crowded loud carnival at the county fair. Still, they do as well as could be expected for under [...] bucks. Keep backup of AAA batteries with you, because you don't get much warning that they're wearing down. Rating: - * price and quality equals nifty 'betweener' ... want just somethin' to 'get 'er done? don't expect miracles but if you have a standard job for this thingy it will definitely be a 'best choice' please don't fry eggs on it and it will last! |

All three principals sing eloquently and with a fine sense of the opera's structure and context. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is in even better voice than Domingo, and Giorgio Zancanaro heads an expert supporting cast. The Covent Garden Chorus, directed with distinction by Michael Hampe, gives a memorable impression of the revolutionary mob. Julius Rudel's conducting is totally idiomatic. --Joe McLellan

Lotfi Mansouri spared no effort or expense in making this production special. He personally directed the staging, and handpicked an outstanding cast (right down to the very young and then-unknown Ben Heppner in the small role of Hervey). The visual elements--sets, costumes, and camera work--are also handled with great care, and Sutherland's positive response to this dedication can be sensed in her performance as the unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII. James Morris is best-known as a Wagnerian singer--perhaps the leading Wotan of our time--but he is equally at home in many of the villainous roles that are the fate of bass- baritones (Iago, Scarpia, Don Giovanni). In this sinister tale of an innocent woman ruthlessly destroyed, he shows a surprising knack for the bel canto style. Judith Forst is also excellent in the role of Jane Seymour. --Joe McLellan
