Rating: - * Solid Quality ... I recently added this product to my high end component system. After a lot of research, I settled on the HT3100PC from Tripp Lite as the best in it's class for features, build quality, looks, and it's 5700 joule rating. I was not disappointed at all after receiving this unit. It is all steel, heavy, with a solid feel. The monitoring LEDS are a nice touch, as is the audible alarm that will activate after a surge occurs. It monitors ground, power, amp usage, protection, incoming voltage levels, etc. The rated joule dissipation level is 5,700; which is at the higher end of any surge protector. Another great feature is the line filtering capacity, which is the highest I have seen even in units costing quite a bit more. Added to these are the lifetime warranty, connected equipment warranty ($ 100,000) and the 1U rack size which really makes this a must have for any home entertainment or stereo system. Outlets are spaced very well, and there are three pairs of HD compatible coax connectors as well as the standard outlets. It even has telephone line jacks as well. One caveat is that there is no room for plugging in a "wall wart" transformer for those of us who use a separate phono preamp requiring an outboard DC power supply. You'll just have to use a short extension cord from the surge outlet to the separate supply. Another thing to consider is the size of this unit, while it is only about 1-1/2" high, it is very deep and may not work on shallow shelves or smaller component racks that are not very deep. It has removable rubber feet for true rack mounting, as well as supplied rack mounting metal tabs. It is heavy enough to stack some lighter components on top if you are so inclined. This is a true professional piece of equipment for the discerning user, and should satisfy anyone looking for great protection in an attractive package. Don't hesitate to add this to your "must have" list. Rating: - * Used defective item sold as new ... I purchased this unit for protecting my HD devices (HDTV, PS3, HD Cable box, DVD player). When my order arrived I immediately opened the box and realized that the manual was not in its plastic sleeve and the screws which are used to mount the brackets onto a rack were not in the box. So I ignored those hints and began reading the manual for installation which states to plug in the unit to ensure all of the led lights are green. All were except for the most important one. The "Protection" light. I checked the vendors website (PC Universe) to read about the product only to read a FAQ that indicates if that protection light is red it will need to be returned. I feel that I was sold a defective item that someone else returned. I called and informed the vendor of this and he told me that it would be impossible for that to happen. I've read other reviews on other customers using the Tripp lite brand and that person also was shipped a used product which was defective. So I lose out on a product that I need desperately and I also lose out on the shipping both ways (about $25). None are refundable for defective items. Some times it is worth to buy locally. My advice to you, steer clear from PC Universe and steer clear of this Tripp lite product. You might get the one I sent back! Rating: - * A solid way to have one power cord from your home theater center ... Does its job. Mainly I got it so I wouldn't have several cables running from my entertainment center, but only one, so I could easily move it (it's on casters). Puts all the cord mess behind your other components. Feet and rack mount parts can be removed with a screwdriver. Shows how much current you're drawing (approximately, with a 5 light meter). All metal casing.
