Amazon.com Item Description:
Save space when you travel: load 10 or more albums onto a single recordable CD and play them in Samsung's MCD-HM200 portable CD player, which handles not only traditional prerecorded CDs but home-brewed discs full of MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) files, as well. The player buffers up to 120 seconds of MP3, 240 seconds of WMA, and 40 seconds of audio CD data to prevent or minimize interruptions in your music during active use. Compatible MP3 files are 8 to 320 kbps, and WMA files can range from 32 to 320 kbps.

The conveniently positioned EQ button lets you choose from various sound modes (such as Rock, Jazz, S.Bass, Classic, and Power Sound). Different kinds of music benefit from different settings, but your own tastes (and headphones, not supplied) are the biggest factor in picking a setting or choosing none at all. S.Bass (Super Bass Sound) dynamically enhances low sounds such as kick drums and bass guitar to provide greater 'presence' and realism.

The navigation button helps you find songs or albums in a jiffy, and you can sequence up to 30 songs in the order of your preference. Other features include track resume (starts from the last track played after stopping), random play, and a plus-10 button (for jumping ahead through song selections). With MP3 CD playback, the unit runs up to 16.5 hours on a pair of AA batteries (not included), and audio CD playback runs 14.75 hours (ESP off) or about 10 hours (when ESP is engaged).

I wanted a portable CD/MP3 player to play my meditation and inspiration CDs. I didn't need too many bells and whistles, nothing too fancy, hence I didn't want to pay a lot pf money for features I would never use.

This one from Samsung has been perfect. Easy to operate and plays through the CD smoothly. I'm happy with this purchase

Unit is superb. I called the dealer on a question and he was very knowlegable, friendly, and prompt.

This is a very attractive looking CD player. It is so easy to use that I didn't even have to read the instructions. It sounds really good too. No skipping and the sound is sharp and crystal clear--no pops or skips like with other less expensive models. I really love mine and am taking it with me on vacation.

I started out with a Rio Volt to play my MP3s on the go. What a piece of junk. Then I purchased a Nomad Jukebox. It holds 10gigs of MP3s, but the battery life is short, and I wanted something relatively cheap I could afford to leave in my car. Enter the Samsung MP3 CD player which I found on sale and with a substantial rebate that rivals the price of other portable CD players. It plays my CD-Rs and CD-RWs almost flawlessly. (I blame the few glitches I've encountered on scratches and cheap media.) I listen to audio books and text-to-speech MP3s (as well as music) in my car during my commute, and the last track memory (a.k.a., resume) feature is an absolute must. This player also starts up a lot faster than any other portable MP3 player I've seen. Battery life is good...maybe 8 or more hours using rechargeable batteries. I've owned enough portable music players to know to just throw away whatever headphones/ear buds that are included, and use my own. I'm going to buy another one of these players for use around my house as soon as I see it on sale again and throw out my Nomad.

I bought this player to use during my daily 4 miles of walking around my neighborhood, so the anti-skip feature was important. The player does a very good job with the anti-skip protection. As long as I carry the player above my waist so that my leg movement doesn't jostle it a lot, the player works quite well, with only an occasional minor glitch. If not moving, the player works perfectly.

The player has a 4-line display that gives you a lot of information, particularly with mp3. Battery life is excellent and the display shows you when the batteries are getting weak.

A lot of people complain about the cheap headphones that tyically come with portable players. I personally found the Samsung's headphones (they're the clip-over-the-ears type) to be pretty good.

The player handles my homemade CD-R disks and the commercial CDs flawlessly. It did not work well with my CD-RW disks. I suspect that the problem lies with my old H-P CD-RW drive rather than the Samsung player, since I've had other problems with the drive.

One feature I really like is the "hold" switch. Turn it on and none of the other buttons on the player will work. This prevents accidentally pressing a button (such as the "off" button!) while I'm out walking and it's bouncing around a bit in the carrying case.

In summary, I'm very pleased with this player. For the price I paid, it was a great deal.

It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon
