Rating: - * You may need a serial ATA to IDE converter ...
After I received this DVD writer, I found out that I couldn't hook it up to my 6 year old Dell. I'm somewhat of a rookie on the hardware stuff so I was clueless as to what "SATA" meant. If you don't know it's a kind of cable connection inside the PC (OK tech heads, don't hit me too hard here, I know it's really more than that). Anyhow, the older computers use IDE connectors and this drive uses Serial ATA. So you need a converter, which you can get for around $30 +/-. I don't know how the drive works yet, I just ordered the converter but I at least thought some of you who, like me, are not current on the hardware situation and have older computers ought to know you'll need a converter to go with the drive. I ordered a Addonics ADSAIDE SATA to IDE-ATAPI Converter because it seemed to have good reviews.
