Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great Sound & Easy Installation ...
I purchased two sets of these Phoenix Gold ceiling speakers thru Amazon and I am very pleased with my purchase. I purchased these at a great price, I received timely delivery, and the speakers are a great sounding addition to my my home entertainment system. Finally, the installation was very easy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Hard to find supports for ceiling tiles ...
I bought these when they were $38, a great deal. I am installing them in 2x4 ceiling tiles. Having experienced sagging tiles in the past, I wanted to make sure they were supported properly so I searched for some support hardware. Supports for 8in speakers are easy to find, not so easy for these. Of the 2 places I found that maybe sold them, one was a large quantity seller and the other cost just as much as the speakers. Well I found my own solution. I glued a pair of 2ft long pieces of suspended ceiling supports ($1 each) the narrow way, to the tile and then installed the speaker so that two of the clamping tabs were on the supports.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * These things rock! ...
I just installed these as my home theater speakers and they sound awesome! I didn't have the room to put out my large stereo speakers so I needed some in ceiling speakers that would sound good while playing music fairly loudly. Along with the sub woofer I don't think that these sound tinny at all as some other reviewers have mentioned. I spent the first two hours after installing these rocking out to my new stereo sound. At the price for these speakers, if I do blow them out I can just get another pair.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Nice speakers - exceptional value ...
Just hooked a pair up outside under the eaves of my garage ( this is my second pair, the others are in the living room). Lets just say my neighbors weren't exactly thrilled to see me installing them outside on the front of my house. I now also have a giant halogen floodlight mounted over my driveway basketball hoop. It didn't take them long to do the math on where this was headed.

But I won't crank it up late at night, much.

Super easy to install. Sound is good, value is exceptional.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - * You get what you pay for ...
I'm currently auditioning speakers for a new whole-house audio distribution system, so I installed these in one room as a test. The price is certainly attractive. My test room is fairly small with a low-ish ceiling so in my application the speakers must be used at relatively low volume/power. They are fairly "tinny" at low volume levels, with some improvement as you increase the volume. I would not recommend them as primary speakers for low-level background music. They might be ok for rear surround applications or in a very large room where they must be driven at higher power levels. For the price, they are pretty decent speakers, but not suitable for the application I'm planning.

Joshua Logan's 1967 film of the hit Broadway musical about the love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris), Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave), and Sir Lancelot (Franco Nero) is strong on star emphasis and weak on such fundamentals as story and sets. Except for a handful of solidly dramatic scenes--such as Guenevere grieving, late in the film, for the ruination she and Lancelot have caused--there's not a lot to get excited about. (The story's theme of a lost, great society, however, certainly struck a chord in the 1960s.) The Lerner-Loewe songs ("If Ever I Would Leave You," "Camelot") pretty much sell themselves, even if they are, at best, only proficiently performed in this movie. --Tom Keogh

"The book was better" has been the complaint of many a reader since the invention of movies. Frank Darabont's second adaptation of a Stephen King prison drama (The Shawshank Redemption was the first) is a very faithful adaptation of King's serial novel. In the middle of the Depression, Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) runs death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Into this dreary world walks a mammoth prisoner, John Coffey (Michael Duncan) who, very slowly, reveals a special gift that will change the men working and dying (in the electric chair, masterfully and grippingly staged) on the mile . As with King's book, Darabont takes plenty of time to show us Edgecomb's world before delving into John Coffey's mystery. With Darabont's superior storytelling abilities, his touch for perfect casting, and a leisurely 188-minute running time, his movie brings to life nearly every character and scene from the novel. Darabont even improves the novel's two endings, creating a more emotionally satisfying experience. The running time may try patience, but those who want a story, as opposed to quick-fix entertainment, will be rewarded by this finely tailored tale. --Doug Thomas

On the DVD

Listen to our interview with Frank Darabont.
Anyone who has seen this Oscar-nominated film knows Frank Darabont likes to t-a-k-e h-i-s t-i-m-e. He certainly does the same in filling all three hours of his commentary track which he recorded over several sessions. Darabont has studied other DVDs and purposely does not repeat tidbits covered in the excellent new 90-minute documentary on author Stephen King and the making of the film. Other solid segments are two deleted scenes, a never-used teaser trailer, and Michael Duncan Clarke's screen test. The highlight is two remarkable tests of Tom Hanks in old-age makeup. Both are very credible, but it was decided to use another actor. The outcome is a DVD that puts the "special" back into the special edition. --Doug Thomas

When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus, a cynical and hardened man, wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. He later becomes convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse received from the robe, which is now in the possession of his escaped slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), somewhere in the Middle East. He sets out to find Demetrius in order to destroy the robe and the curse and finds faith instead, converting to Christianity. This was the first movie to be filmed in CinemaScope, and won Oscars in 1953 for costume design, art direction, and set decoration. The visual aspects of the film are stunning, and it may be worth viewing for that alone; however, the script and acting leave much to be desired, and you won't find inspiration in these areas if that's what interests you. If, however, you are more interested in this film for its religious matter, the story of the conversion of the hardened Marcellus is inspiring. --James McGrath
