Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great little set of speakers for the price! ...
For the price, these speakers do what they're supposed to. They play your music, at reasonable volumes with decent quality, and connect together for portability when not in use. For anyone who expects stellar sound quality at high volumes in the $20 range, I think it's time to get a little more realistic. They function as they should and do a good job at it. If that's not what you're looking for, plan on digging a little deeper into your wallet.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Surprisingly good sound ...
Pros:
-Very decent sound for the price/size. Bass is not all that deep but highs come in great. These get really loud before the distortion starts, and the quality is shockingly good - u will be surprised...
-with the amp turned off (passive mode) the speakers still produce very decent volume
-cool look and form factor - egg shape is really cool and the speakers look really good and techie
-put together the whole package is pretty portable and protected within itself

Cons:
-High volumes with high bass = distortion
-Bulky, on the packaging it says small enough to carry "in pocket or bag" uh... even with cargo pants, these things are not fitting.. they are like a large ostrich egg...
-cords from speakers dont wrap that easily in the wire holder on the amp

For the price, these are some of the coolest speakers i have ever owned, i will probably use them the most with my laptop and when i travel with my Zen and Ipod... if the battery life is really 20-30hrs I don't see why ppl are complaining about the lack of A/C power...

the only thing i wouldve included is what the newest generation of these have: a carrying bag - apparently Philips made these with a built in Ipod dock for the newest version... as a Zen lover I'm glad i got these...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * very nice! ...
I received these speakers with the little amplifier as a Christmas gift from my mom and dad. I am very pleased. I am amazed at the sound I get from these speakers considering how small they are. They are very stylish as well. I love the way they look. These speakers put the little black speaker set i used to have to shame. I have had these less than a day and am enjoying them immensely. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a small, portable set of speakers with good sound. If there is any negative it is that they are a little more bulky than some, but the sound they give makes up for that. This is a very nice little set of speakers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Very cute and great sound. ...
I bought these just to have them at work to listen to music from my ipod so I could get up and walk away when needed and so I didn't have to have on earphones, I was happy with the sound just from the speakers alone, but when I put the batteries in the amp and plugged everything in I was really surprised. They also come in handy when you want to share what you are watching on your video ipod. I would truly recommend them, they are soooo cute too. So don't forget the AAA batteries when you order a set for yourself or as a gift.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Twenty Dollars! ...
I have been looking for reasonably priced speakers for several months in the chain stores. Well tonight I found them. All others were docking stations for the iPods that were impractible to pack in a small suitcase or briefcase, costing anywhere from 79. to 200+

Well that is no longer a problem. The sound is fine, the size excellent. Do they sound the same as my BOSE headphones? No. They are not supposed to. You get a great sized pair of speakers that run on 3 AAA. Like the title of this review is "Twenty Dollars". A good item at a great price.

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
