Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Shipped the Same Day ...
I haven't gotten this player so I just gave it the average review.
I ordered it today and it shipped today. I don't know what problem
the other person had, but it looks l'll get mine in a couple of days.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - * Don't order this item from Amazon ...
I ordered this item several days ago. The page said it was in stock. Well, it's taking them *at least* 7 days just to ship it, so that it's guaranteed I won't get it for our Thanksgiving vacation - for which I bought it. No explanation whatsoever as to why there is such a huge delay on shipping it and no apologies either.

So, if you were thinking of getting one of these for a long drive, make sure you order it at least a month in advance.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * GREAT!!!!! ...
We have been wanting a dvd portable player for some time. Plan on using it when we go on our short mini-vacations.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Excellent portable DVD player ...
This is one of the best portable DVDs I've used. The screen has a very wide angle view thus you can see the picture eventhough you are not directly in front of the screen, great for sharing what you're seeing (specially if you have more than one kid).

The battery duration is also the longest!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Perfect for our needs ...
This Panasonic DVD LS86 replaced a boxy, Toshiba 9" DVD/TV player that we had for years. It was a regular CRT, and worked very well as a DVD player for road trips for my family. Too many drops out of the car ended its career.
We then researched the various DVD / LCD players. Our biggest dislike of what we researched was the picture and the sound. Too many players had low viewing angles, and too many required headsets to listen. Well, we wanted our kids to be able to watch roadtrip DVDs without completely tuning us out (in other words, without headsets), and to be able to see the picture from both sides of the backseat. Thus, we didn't really buy anything and on the next trip our kids had to actually read books (Auugghh - mean parents!!!)
After that trip we really just lucked into this Panasonic. I went to the local Big Box electronics store, and they told me this one had just come out. It was marked really low, and they told me to try it and see if it met my requirements. If it didn't they promised I could bring it back - no questions asked (I was skeptical).
Well, there was no need. This player works like a charm. The sound is perfect (not too loud, nor so soft that my kids require headsets - even on loud roads), the picture is very visible from both sides of the car, and its portability makes it easy to mount (on a strap between the two front-seat headrests). Plus, it's easy to hide when we're out of the car, or to simply tote into a hotel room.
The battery life (on full brightness and probably full volume) usually gets my kids through about 1-1/2 movies. Then I just plug the thing into a cigarette lighter. Frankly, nothing could be easier.
We've had this around a year now, and we are very happy with it. We had no other needs for a player, and this one gets highest marks all around.
Great job, Panasonic! This has been perfect for our needs.

The word Baraka means "blessing" in several languages; watching this film, the viewer is blessed with a dazzling barrage of images that transcend language. Filmed in 24 countries and set to an ever-changing global soundtrack, the movie draws some surprising connections between various peoples and the spaces they inhabit, whether that space is a lonely mountaintop or a crowded cigarette factory. Some of these attempts at connection are more successful than others: for instance, an early sequence segues between the daily devotions of Tibetan monks, Orthodox Jews, and whirling dervishes, finding more similarity among these rituals than one might expect. And there are other amazing moments, as when sped-up footage of a busy Hong Kong intersection reveals a beautiful symmetry to urban life that could only be appreciated from the perspective of film. The lack of context is occasionally frustrating--not knowing where a section was filmed, or the meaning of the ritual taking place--and some of the transitions are puzzling. However, the DVD includes a short behind-the-scenes featurette in which cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi) explains that the effect was intentional: "It's not where you are that's important, it's what's there." And what's here, in Baraka, is a whole world summed up in 104 minutes. --Larisa Lomacky Moore

The tricky topic of interracial romance gets a sexy, charming, and unexpectedly realistic treatment in Something New. Kenya (Sanaa Lathan, Out of Time, Alien Vs. Predator), a successful accountant, gets set up on a blind date with Brian (Simon Baker, The Ring Two)--only to discover that he's white, leading her to cut the date short. At a party, Kenya admires the garden and gets introduced to the landscape architect: Brian. Thus begins a bumpy but increasingly sparky relationship, despite opposition from Kenya's friends and family, as well as Kenya and Brian's own internal resistance. Make no mistake, Something New is a mainstream romantic comedy, with ridiculously attractive people grappling with problems that get solved with just a little too much ease--but along the way, Kriss Turner's script, Sanaa Hamri's direction, and Baker's and especially Lathan's performances ground the movie in something resembling the real world. Kenya's and Brian's emotional terrain has a genuine texture to it; the rhythm of the dialogue and the visual pacing allows their characters to breathe and become more genuine and vivid than your standard rom-com lovers. The strong supporting cast--including Alfre Woodard (Crooklyn), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Mike Epps (Next Friday), and Blair Underwood (Full Frontal)--doesn't hurt. But Lathan owns the movie; this actress deserves true stardom. --Bret Fetzer
