Editorial Review:

Item Description:
The Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK DVD recorder is capable of receiving both digital and analog broadcasts. Even when digital signals drop out because of interference with direct signal access, which makes the picture either disappear or become filled with block noise, the Digital Tuner still produces a beautiful picture. Just slip the SD card into the slot or use the cable to connect the camera to the USB terminal, and you're ready to enjoy a spectacular big-screen slideshow with family and friends. You can even listen to music recorded onto a USB device while viewing your photos. Connect your Panasonic DVD recorder to a flat-panel HDTV via an HDMI cable and the TV channel setting information is automatically downloaded to the recorder. Once the Auto Preset Download is complete, the DVD recorder will keep whichever TV channel you're watching as its receiving channel. This means you can record the program you're watching by just pressing the Record button on the VIERA remote. With VIERALink, you don't have to worry about setting the recorder to the right channel every time you want to record something. Frequently used buttons, such as Power and Open/Close, are located at the top of the main unit (this makes them easier to see when the unit is placed in a rack, where you need to look down when operating it). Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * fairly happy ...
The unit hooks up quickly using a HMDI cable. The picture is very good on DVD and digital broadcast. Tuning channels is slow and the unit locks up if you change channels too fast. No "recall" button for the last viewed channel. You also have to use the"input" selection button to change from broadcast to SAT TV. Have not used recording functions yet. Unit is fairly easy to set up.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - * Works fine if you don't mind unplugging it to reset the freeze ups! ...
I've bought two of these machines now, just returned the second one today. I really enjoyed the functionality of the machine, it worked fine when recording digital tv to be watched later. The quality was OK as long as we did it in 2-3 hours per disc mode. If you try to do 6 hours, it's pretty pathetic. After a few weeks the first machine began to freeze up. The only way we could get it to turn off or on was to unplug the machine and essentially let it reboot. Reminded me of my old computer! Anyway, trusting in the quality of panasonic products (I have and love their 50" plasma TV as well as one of their Lumix cameras) I returned the first one and purchased a second. It also worked fine but 2 months later began the freeze ups. I know it's easy to fix by unplugging, but give me a break. A $250 piece of equipment should be better than this. I'd never recommend this product to anyone due to the frustrations we've had with it.

I do agree with others that the channel surfing is extremely slow. I also found the remote to be set up strangely, not at all how I would set up a remote. If you're watching a dvd, the menu button doesn't even pull up the menu, you have to select a different button that says functions, then go through a selection of options to get to the menu of the dvd. Strange.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * Average...Not that impressive... ...
I bought this b/c of the VHS/DVD combo... Our daughters still want to see ALL the Disney Princess VHS movies so I thought to combine the two would be a great move ... The DVD started to give me hard time playing the DVD that we've burned from CVS as a picture/music slide shows... It litterally stopped recognizing the disc after playing and it got stuck inside ..."reading error" and it just stopped and not doing anything... after a while waiting (over 15minutes) I then unplug the power cord to reset it then it spits out disc...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK ...
It's a nice unit, easy to set up, be sure you've got your cable box on pbs- and be ready to channel up on the unit if you normally use channel 4,Very easy set up just follow the on screen instructions, The unit is up to date and recognizes all copy protected encryption, I do like the double recorder capability.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - * Disappoint from Panasonic ...
I got this set thinking this is just everything I needed DVD recorder.
But, I was very disappoint for 1) very often skip scheduled recording 2) periodic lock up and gave N99 error code,(frequent needs reset). 3)you can not record over the air TV program onto VCR tape, so, if your DVD ram is full, the VCR can not help you to tape more programs. 4) Constantly reject DVD+RW disc and show is a bad disc.(waste disc)
Very disappointed Panasonic will make such low quality DVD recorder at such high price. I exchanged another same set, it still has same problems. So I got my money back and purchased a Panasonic DMR-EZ17VK (the set without VCR) thinking maybe the combination set has design problem, guess what, It had same problem as the other 2 sets but just less frequent lock up. I am not sure there is design problem or QC problem, because all these sets are all made in China.
by the way, these sets will not play VCD disc.
Take my advice, DON'T BUY THESE 2 Model I already tried.

There are but two kinds of people in the world: Those captivated by Baz Luhrmann's heady, postmodernist musical romp Moulin Rouge--and everybody else. Oddly, the film's initial soundtrack release may have been the project's most traditional element, marketing a slate of pop-star contributions that gave listeners a sometimes-skewed perspective on its true musical charms. This follow-up corrects much of that oversight, offering original film versions of "Sparkling Diamonds" (the lavish, Nicole Kidman-performed medley of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Material Girl"), Jim Broadbent's and Richard Roxburgh's loopy take on "Like a Virgin," as well as the lively Offenbach "Can Can" parody "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)." It also pays homage to the efforts of composer Craig Armstrong, whose quietly compelling underscore often binds the film's other far-flung musical influences together, be they stately orchestral readings of Elton John's "Your Song," a dramatic arrangement for Kidman and Ewan MacGregor's original film duet of "Come What May," or his dark, melodramatic take on Queen's "The Show Must Go On." The first Moulin Rouge soundtrack collection flaunted the film's bold, cross-genre ambitions; this one chronicles its nakedly emotional heart and soul. --Jerry McCulley

It would be easy to dismiss Kelly Osbourne's musical ambitions based on 1) Her royally obnoxious behavior on the family's MTV reality series, 2) Her overly manufactured debut album, Shut Up, and 3) That voice, which up until now, sounded like cats on a chalkboard. But spare a moment for the bratty singer's follow-up effort, a remarkably faithful new-wave throwback, which generously references everyone from Duran Duran to Missing Persons. Producer Linda Perry not only effectively revives the dramatic sounds and melodies of the era but offers songs that perfectly suit Osbourne's, er, constrained vocal range. The resulting disc is full of guilty pleasures like "Uh Oh" and "Redlight," tunes that should strike a chord with anyone that still gets a thrill out of happening upon basic cable reruns of "Sixteen Candles." --Aidin Vaziri
