Rating: - * Defective out of the box - poor customer support. ... In terms of speed, the computer is fine. However, I won't bore you with a long review but instead list my gripes with this system which explains why I will not buy another HP again: 1) For $1,200.00 you should have two DVD drives, not one. I was aware of this when I bought it and I have an additional external drive that I use, but for this price, you should have two installed on the machine. 2) Out of the box, my media card reader was completely dead (defective). Now, we use HP computers at work, and out of 8 machines, 5 of them have had issues with their media card readers either right out of the box, or within a short time of using the machines. For a $300 computer you could almost understand it, but again, for $1,200.00 you'd expect the m9450f to at least have a WORKING card reader when you open it. 3) Support. In order to discuss the issues with the card reader I was on hold for over one hour and twenty minutes, only to get someone who speaks English *maybe* as their third language. NOT acceptable. The problem was not resolved. I'm using a store-bought external media card reader - on a $1,200.00 machine. I was in need of a good graphics-capable system quickly due to work I'm doing at home, and Dell was going to take too long to build/ship a system I configured. Costco/Sams didn't have high enough systems on the shelf, so I found the m9450f at my local Microcenter in stock. While the specs are fine overall for the price, and it is speedy in terms of processing power, there is just no excuse for out of box defective issues, and such incredibly poor customer service from any company. After having spent days getting the system up to par (before this defect was discovered), I'm not going to return it, but it will be the last HP I take a chance on. Rating: - * Great, superfast computer for an amazing price ... I recently purchased this computer and am extremely pleased with its high speed performance. Great for film editing as well as many other functions. It's lightening fast and has an incredible 8GB Ram, large 750 GB (actually 686GB) hard drive as well as a superfast processor. For the price, you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal. Rating: - * Generally positive ... Worked well out of the box, better when I got rid of the garbage software, games, etc., that comes with all HP computers. My purpose was to run graphics programs, Photoshop, Lightroom quickly and well. It does that superbly; the fastest PC I have used. A bonus is that the computer case is very quiet, with no audible fan noise during normal operation. The various slots for insertion of HP's proprietary removable drives are of no value to me. Most of us would want a transportable drive to be useable on any other PC, not just another HP PC. My biggest gripe is the lack of a disk to reinstall the operating system or portions of it separately if needed. The built in push-one-button backup system using Microsoft's backup program is also pretty useless because one cannot restore a particular file from the backup. It's all or none. Rating: - * M9450f big bang for a low price! ... I just purchased this item and, for the money, it's hard to beat. Frankly, it's faster than my $3,500 less than a year old quad machine at work! Pros: - Quiet - Fast - well loaded Cons: - case seems small and I worry a bit about heat (no problems though) - 2nd cd/DVD drive would have been nice - better sound card (X-FI) would have been nice All in all, a great buy and really fast! I purchased and returned an HP TouchSmart right before this and the M9450 is twice as fast as the TouchSmasrt and doesn't have the major ergonomic issues of the TouchSmart... |
