The D-Link DUB-E100 is a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Adapter specifically designed to plug into an available Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on a desktop or laptop PC running Microsoft Windows XP, Me, 2000 or 98. Based on USB 2.0, the DUB-E100 extends the transfer speed of earlier USB Fast Ethernet adapters to true 10/100Mbps connectivity. As a USB device, the D-Link DUB-E100 eliminates the need to use an ISA, PCI, or PC Card slot to add LAN connectivity to a PC desktop or laptop computer. Installation and use are further simplified by living up to USB's out-of-the-box installation approach to connecting computer peripherals. You will not need to open the case of your computer, nor will you be required to set IRQs. The D-Link DUB-E100 represents the simplest way to connect your computer to an Ethernet-based network.The D-Link DUB-E100 provides a standard RJ-45 connector for a quick and simple method of connecting to an Ethernet 10Mbps or Fast Ethernet 100Mbps-based LAN via a network hub or switch. The single type 'B' USB port enables it to be connected directly to a USB host computer, or a USB Hub. Power for the DUB-E100 is provided directly by the USB bus eliminating the need for an external power adapter. It also supports USB's energy saving suspend and resume functions to minimize power consumption, which is especially useful for laptop/notebook users.

Rating: - * Included Mac Drivers Didn't Work ... I purchased this because the built-in ethernet port on an older iMac failed. I was surprised when it arrived because the CD said it had Macintosh drivers that *should* have worked with the iMac in questions (hardware, software, etc. met the requirements). However, the device would not connect to the Internet, although the computer saw the device. I installed the free drivers from http://www.sustworks.com/ and then it worked instantly. The hardware itself seems to be working fine, but I lost an hour of my life trying to make D-Link's drivers work. Bottom Line: Buy one for your Mac if you need it (price and h/w specs are good), but just use the free driver and ignore the D-Link CD. Rating: - * Frustrating to install ... It seems like a good product now that I have it up and running. I've been on wireless the past few months because my network card stopped responding and with this product, my connection is noticeably a lot more stable and faster. I almost returned the product, however, because I could not get the driver to install. I tried on 3 different relatively new laptops, two of which are Toshibas, and one of which is a Dell - all running Windows XP. As soon as you plug it in, it is recognized, but if you try to install the driver from the CD as suggested, it does not work. It says the driver is missing or corrupt. I tried pointing it to the actual file but that did not work either (by the way the manual is garbage - whoever typed it up never actually tested what they wrote. There are spaces missing in file destination paths). I got it working after going to the D-link website and downloading the driver there and pointing to the specific file myself. Kind of a hassle for me... it might be for you as well, so be wary of that. On a better note though, Amazon.com is great. I ordered late on a Sunday night - Monday was a national Holiday (Columbus Day), and I received it late tuesday afternoon. It wasn't supposed to arrive until next Monday with the Free Shipping I selected, but it only took a day and a half. Rating: - * D-Link USB Adapter ... I own a computer business & have had one of these for a few years & liked it so much wanted another for backup. It is reliable and has always come thru for me & sturdy. Rating: - * Does exactly what I wanted ... I bought this product for an old Dell laptop that I use when I am on the road, an where wireless is not available, only ethernet. I just installed it and it works flawlessly. Rating: - * USB to Ethernet adapter for XO laptop ... I purchased this USB to Ethernet adapter explicitly for use with my new OLPC XO laptop. It works as advertised; plug it in and turn on the laptop - it just works.
