The slick-looking MX850 is a versatile four-in-one device that can fax, copy, scan, and print eye-popping photos. View larger. |
Fast, Outstanding Prints Thanks to an advanced print head that contains 4,608 nozzles, and the use of five-color ink that achieves ink droplets as small as one picoliter, you get spectacular photos at a maximum 9600 x 2400 dpi resolution that are smooth and virtually grain-free. The MX850 prints at a speedy 31 ppm black and 24 ppm color, and can print a photo lab quality, borderless 4-by-6-inch photo in approximately 21 seconds.
By having a 5-color ink system that uses separate ink cartridges for each color, you only have to replace the color that runs out, rather than wasting unused ink in a multi-color cartridge. What this means for you is reduced printing costs and reduced waste.
The MX850 lets you print photos without a computer by using the printer's built-in memory card reader and 2.5-inch color display. The Auto Image Fix feature automatically applies image correction by fixing colors, exposure, and other settings, giving you the best print possible. The built-in memory card reader is compatible with SD MemoryCard, SDHC, MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash, Microdrive, Memory Stick, and Memory Stick PRO. You can also print photos directly from a digital camera.
Duplex Printing, Scanning and Copying The MX850 can print two-sided documents and photos without the need to manually flip the pages over. An Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) holds up to 35 sheets and enables automatic duplexing for copies and scans, leaving you free to work on other tasks while the device does the work.
The MX850 can make copies at a speed of up to 31 ppm black and 24 ppm color, and supports reductions and enlargements from 25% to 400%. It allows you to make up to 99 copies at once, and features 4-in-1 and 2-in-1 copies, a fit-to-copy, and sort functions.

Auto Image Fix ensures a good print every time. |

The scanner features a 4800 dpi resolution at a 48-bit color depth for scans that pick up even the most minute detail. And thanks to Canon's advanced copy technology, the MX850 copies graphics and documents with faithful accuracy.
High-Speed Fax The MX850 features a Super G3 High-Speed fax, which allows the fastest fax transfers in both black-and-white and color. The device's built-in memory will store 100 coded speed dials and up to 250 incoming pages.
Built-in Networking With a built-in Ethernet connection, connecting the MX850 to your home network is as simple as connecting an Ethernet cord to and from the device to your network. Ideal for small office settings and home networks, the device also supports an optional BU-30 Bluetooth interface for wireless printing from a PC or PDA.
The Canon MX850 All-In-One Printer is compatible with Windows (including Vista) and Macintosh operating systems . It is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Rating: - * Our Best Printer ...
We love this printer. Is so quiet and does not jam up. And the print quality of pictures can not be beat! Prints fast, too. Highly recommended.
Rating: - * WONDERFUL ...
We plugged this printer into our router and followed the directions to set up each computer and it works wonderful. We used to leave a computer running all the time so we could have a network printer now just the printer is on!! We have 2 desktops and a hand full of laptops and a combination of wired and wireless connections and the printer works with all of them faithfully.
Rating: - * Clever, clean and just what I was looking for! ...
The duplexing is great, as is the booklet printing feature. The print is crisp and clean and it is easy on the ink usage. This model was hard to find locally, but Amazon delivered it overnight cheaper than my local retailers were willing to sell it for (and I asked firmly and politely). This is the best printer I have ever owned and I've owned several - Buy this one today!
Rating: - * A few problems. ...
I bought a MX310 and then had the pleasure of installing and configuring the MX850. I'm just going to highlight some important things.
The MX850 was more convenient than the MX310. I like the full color LCD screen for easy fax configuration. I also like the native Cassette paper source.
The documentation for printer installation and configuration is too vague. I was having an issue with Networking the printer between three different computers and when I kept looking at the book I wondered if they meant something other than what I initially understood. I finally got it to work the next day, but I can only theorize why it didn't work the first time.
Problems that it shares with the MX310:
The software is installs itself in multiple folders in the start menu. Why can't it just create a single folder and put all the things that have to do with the printer in there? It doesn't do that; it installs, even the manual, in a different folder in the start menu. It was nice of Canon to add clutter to my start menu.
Another is difficulty in receiving faxes. These printers have a hard time distinguishing a voice call from a fax call. Even on Telephone Priority, they answer voice calls with the fax and then hang up on the person when it notices no fax info. When receiving a fax, they mistake it for a voice call. I'm still trying to figure this out. It will probably result in a call to Canon.
