And with the prints coming out at a speedy 23 pages per minute, you won't have to wait for them either. The printer includes 32MB of memory and has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 pages. The fold-out rear output tray reduces the possibility of paper jams by allowing for a straight paper path when printing envelopes and other thick media.

Thanks to a 35-page auto document feeder, you can copy, fax, and scan multiple pages without standing around manually swapping pages. The copier lets you reduce and enlarge from 25 to 400 percent of the original, and you can put 2 or 4 sheets on one page. The copier also supports a sorting function.

A built-in 33.6k bps fax modem lets you fax documents at speeds of up to 2 seconds per page. The device supports Caller ID, out-of-paper reception, external TAD interface, distinctive ring detection, auto fax reduction, fax forwarding, automatic redial, dual access, and fax broadcasting of up to 258 locations at once. Built-in memory allows the device to store up to 600 pages in memory for faxing.

Scan Photographs, Images, and Documents
Scan photographs and pictures at a resolution of up to 19200 x 19200 dpi (600 x 2400 dpi optical) at 48-bit color depth for integrating high-quality images into your documents. With the included OCR software for both Windows and Mac, you can also easily change paper documents into editable digital copies.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great wireless multifunction printer. ...
This was the only multifunction laser printer with wireless that I could find in for an inexpensive price. Wireless found my workgroup immediately but it took a little while to figure out how to put in my 128 bit wep code. Once that was in, it prints like a dream. I needed a printer that I could hide in the closet and use my notebook anywhere in the house. This printer did the job. Scanning, copying and faxing are very easy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Very nice and compact. ...
When I ordered this machine, the primary rationale was its wireless capability. With 6 computers in the household, I wanted it to serve as the main fax/printer for common day-to-day needs while reserving the expensive color printers for more special tasks. My first choice for its location was one of the few rooms in the house without an Ethernet outlet, so a wireless connection to our pre-N router seemed to make sense.

Well, it turned out that the room had no phone jack either and I was too lazy to wire one. So the machine ended up at the same spot as the one it replaced and was plugged into a wired Ethernet outlet. Therefore, I don't really know how well its wireless reception works.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the purchase nonetheless. The price is reasonable and its software works well with both Windows and Mac. The machine is very compact for a multi-function laser printer, about 1/3 shorter than the MFC-8000 series, and yet does everything equally well. Another plus is its total silence while in stand-by mode. I have an old high-end Xerox that sounds like a jet engine even without an active job. I have no choice but to leave its power at the off position most of the time. This is not a concern with the Brother. It stays quiet all day, wakes up within a minute after a job arrives, and goes back to silence quickly. This makes it a unobtrusive and convenient presence.

My old machine is an MFC-8820D, which served faithfully for nearly 3 years without requiring new drums or toners. Unfortunately, the hinge on the auto-feeder broke recently under normal usage. I liked the overall experience of ownership enough to go with another Brother, but the hinge on this machine looks to be of identical design to its big brother, so I am somewhat concerned. On the other hand, all printer makers squeeze the customers on parts, so once a printer reaches 3 years of age and begins to require expensive consumables, the economics tilts toward outright replacement anyway. Taking into account the disposable nature of these printers, the $200+ price tag of the MFC-7000 series makes a lot more sense to me than those of the MFC-8000s and 9000s.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Full-featured multifunction device ...
I was looking for a laser multifunction device with network capability that I could use to print from my laptop anywhere in the house. A lot of reviews seemed to point to the Brother MFCs as the best overall brand for laser monochrome devices. The only problem was that there were a LOT of different models to choose from - just going to the Brother website to do some comparison shopping made my head spin.

The MFC-7840W is a recently introduced model which has seemed to get good reviews across the board. A major plus is that it has both wireless and wired network capabilities. I took the plunge and purchased this model. Since I already had a wireless router to plug it into, I didn't need to use the wireless capabilities, but it seemed to be a nice option for future flexibility. The Ethernet connection was easy to set up and worked the first time I tried printing from my laptop.

I've been very pleased with the quality and feature set of the MFC-7840W. Not only does it print high quality output, but it has clearly-labeled buttons for scan, fax, and copy, which makes it a breeze to use any of these functions. Plus, the device is relatively light and doesn't have a very large footprint, so it fits easily on top of a small file cabinet. High marks overall.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Perfect machine ...
The machine is just perfect. It fits my needs. It works with my wireless network. It does perfect printing, copying , faxing and scanning.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Very nice multifunction with wireless ...
This is a very nice product -- laser printer, multifunction, with wireless.

I have a wireless N router with WPA security and a security key -- I got this Brother (vs. the Brother laser printer) because it has a telephone keypad for the fax machine which makes it easier to type in the WPA shared key.

The printer searched for the wireless network and found it on the first try -- I've been very happy with it so far.

It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon

Few would accuse Fantasia of a reluctance to abide by the wisdom that what you've got, you should flaunt, and the vocal gusto she slathers over her full-length debut gets partial credit for earning--and keeping--your attention. To a greater extent, though, the high-wattage help heaped over the Idol 3 champ and Patti LaBelle-sound-alike makes the disc dazzle. In addition to pitch-ins from Missy Elliott, who produced and co-wrote three tracks and busts out a two-snaps-up rhyme on "Selfish (I Want U 2 Myself)," Jazze Pha duets on the ultra-mod "Don't Act Right" and Jermaine Dupri wrote and produced the smolderer "Got Me Waiting." Surprisingly, though, it's not those tracks or even the Idol-propelled cover of the Gershwins' "Summertime" that will stick with listeners most. Instead, first single "Truth Is," a sweet, old-school R&B lament directed toward a lost love, and "Baby Mama," a spirited shout-out to hard-working single mothers, snare standout status with their from-the-gut authenticity. Keeping it real is what won Fantasia the hearts of millions on TV, and despite Free Yourself's likable slickness, it convinces that--hot commodity or no--she's not about to forget it. -Tammy La Gorce
