Rating: - * Instant space on aging Thinkpad T43p ... I have this almost 3yr old T43p thinkpad that came with a 60GB HDD of which only 51GB was usable space. This 2nd HDD adapter extended the lifespan of my PC by another 3yrs. Frankly I havent used the CD/DVD drive any more than 0.5% of the time since now a days everything is networked and with high speed internet and dirt cheap high capacity jumpdrives transferring data never nessecitates CD/DVD. So replacing the DVD drive with another HDD is a no brainer. Installation took <2mins. I bought myself a 2.5" WD250GB Scorpio PATA drive that I had to slip into the adapter. Shove the thing in and viola you have additional 250GB. After booting up you will not see the HDD but it is there. Just right click on My computer>Manage>Storage>Disk Management>selected the newly installed HDD and format it NTFS (you can do a quick format since it is a brand new one, or else do a full format which takes little longer depending on the capacity). Also this is where you get the option to partion it if you so wish. Once formatted it is just like another HDD. The WD250GB Scorpio PATA drive is really wishper quiet even in an empty room with no ambient noise. One that concerened me a little is there is a very tiny gap between the drive and the plastic that fills the gap. But so far it is not rattling around. However make sure you are getting the right adapter for your system.. T4o series has the ultrabay slim , so make sure you get the "slim" version. R series use Ultrabay2000 so keep that in mind. I am very very happy that IBM came up with this novel solution. Infact you can have multiple 2.5" HDDs which you can swap in an out and take instant backups. Dont know if putting IN and OUT HDDs too many times can wear out the contacts, so not highly advisable. I THINK IT IS MUST FOR ALL AGING THINKPADS. Rating: - * Excelent pice of HW !! ... It's cheap installation could not be eassier, and it's a great extra accesory for your LT Rating: - * Does what it's supposed to! ... Excellent adapter for adding a 2nd internal hard drive to a Lenovo Laptop. If you are using Windows Vista or XP simply slip the drive into the adapter and slip into the Ultrabay. If the drive is new, you will need to initialize the drive and format it using XP administrative tools. There are plenty of instructions on the web and Lenovo website for doing this. No additional software is required. The adapter comes with some additional software tools for copying disks and moving files, etc. This additional software can be downloaded from Lenovo's website contrary to what a previous reviewer indicates. This software is no substitute for NERO's or Roxio's disk tools. I've been using the adapter with a 160GB 2.5 inch internal hard drive enclosed in it now for a few weeks and it works perfectly. Rating: - * Corrupt software floppy disk ... The ultra slim bay adapter comes with EZ-GIG software that is supposed to make the upgrade to a new hard disk drive easy. Well first thing is it is supplied on a floppy. Almost no ThinkPads come with a floppy drive. A bootable USB flash drive would be much handier. At least the product descriptions should warn of this. Worse in my case the floppy disk was corrupted and unreadable so I could not copy it onto a bootable flash drive. I tried several PCs, it was unreadable on all of them. Now I'm stuck with "Lemon-ovo" support just trying to find anybody to contact to get another CD. There does not appear to be any way to download this software form their support site. That is just stupid. |
